So after spending a weekend with some of the greatest friends in the world, in the most geeked out living room on the planet (5 adults, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 2 tv(55inch and 47inch), 2 ipads, 5 laptops, 9 cell phones and a couple of wireless networks), I have changed the location of this blog.

We went on the Busch Stadium tour this past weekend. Lyle, one of our tour guides, took a shine to Ryan. It was a little cool and cloudy, but going on the tour reminded me that spring is just around the corner. If you ever get a chance to tour the stadium, do it. It was a great time! And we’re back!
I’ve taken an extended hiatus from posting, but an unexpected snow day brought me back.
So much has gone on the last 2 months (where did the time go?) So here is a quick update to catch everyone up…
November – Tim and I went to Vegas my work conference. I won $100,000 pennies!!! We took a day trip to Hoover Dam and the Western Rim of the Grand Canyon. Mor Mor Jo kept Ryan for the week. They had some great bonding time and Ryan learned all about airplanes. Thanksgiving was a busy day. We hosted the day with about 15 dinner guests. Great time and great food.
December – As you may know our little man turned 3 on the 19th. How can he be 3 already? We had a great birthday party. I will post a short video of him opening is presents. It is priceless! Christmas was full of joy and happiness. Family in from out-of-town. White Christmas. Presents, presents, presents that is all Ryan wanted for Christmas…presents, well at least that is what he told Santa.
Now that Ryan is 3, his PT, OT, Speech and Eye services end within the First Steps program. It was so emotional to say goodbye to his therapists. Jo, Ellen, Adele and Ashley, you will be missed. You have been a part of our lives the last 2 and ½ years. Ryan looked forward to each visit with you. Thank you for all of your hard work with him. He would not be where he is today without your help! J
So how is Ryan receiving services now? Well, after a long process of working with the public school and early childhood programs, Ryan was accepted into one of the top Magnet schools in the city! Yes, our little man is now in pre-school! The school is for kids age P3 to 2nd grade. There are about 400 kids in the entire school. He is in an inclusion classroom (10 kiddos with an IEP (Independent Educational Program) and 10 kiddos without). He qualified for PT and OT services….He did not qualify for Eye or Speech!!! So far so good. He likes going to his ‘new school’. He is opening up more every day. Yesterday we received a note from his PT that he walked from the table to a chair with the help of a walker!!!! We ask him was he did at school and he says: “ I ate a cookie and goldfish crackers”
He talks like crazy and repeats everything! 10 word sentences are becoming more and more common. “I want to sit on the brown couch and read a book with my mommy” is just an example of what he is saying. help raise awareness about premature births.Premature births affect
approximately 10 percent of the babies born. Each year nearly 13 million babies
are born prematurely. In the United States about half a million babies are born
prematurely and end up being admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units.More than
one million premature babies die each year and those who survive often face
serious health challenges and risk lifelong disabilities.The Fight for Preemies
is being organized by Bloggers Unite and the March of Dimes to raising awareness
of the crisis of premature birth. Bloggers are invited to get involved by
spreading the word about the Fight for Preemies and to post a blog on November
17th during Prematurity Awareness Month.

One quick note, Ryan had eye therapy this week with Jo. She only has a couple of visits left with him (he turns 3), but then he probably won't qualify for eye therapy anymore....he won't need it!!! So, the St. Louis Blues is a huge supporter of the Delta Gamma Center and Jo is having all the kids make 'Thank You' cards with their hand prints and photos. Here is a picture of Ryan making his card in his Blues sweater. This is his 3rd sweater and it too is getting a little snug. Our little man is no longer in 2T. He has graduated to 3T and even some 4T jammies!

Wow, the summer is officially over, with Labor Day weekend upon us. I've uploaded quite a few photos of the past two months events.
We've had a few birthday parties, a music festival and out of town guests (family and friends) stay with us.
My goddaughter, Madisyn turned 5. We attended her birthday pool party. Ryan loved it. He loves the water and is quite adventurous when it comes to going under. He can't get enough. The floating toy he sits in, can barely hold him anymore. If he turns sideways, he can tip over, making him laugh, but scaring mom half to death!
In Mid-august, the annual summer birthday party took place in Steeleville. About 8 or 9 family members birthdays are celebrated. Olivia turned two. She (and her mom, dad, and new brother Tucker) stayed with us a few days. Ryan loved playing with his cousins. His face lights up when you say Olivia's name.
A visit to Grant's Farm was also in order. I could not make it, since I had to work :( Fun was had by all.
Last weekend in August, we attened the first annual LouFest (http://www.loufest.com/). A music festival, held at the ball fields in Forest Park. A two day event filled with music and fun. We had so much fun. The weather was great (considering this was the 4th hottest summer on record). We set up a base camp, between both stages and listened to some great music and watched the kids play. Our Columbia family came to town to join us at the festival. Cam, Jordan and Ryan had a great time playing together. Check out Jordan's website at http://www.bornjustright.com/. Jen does such a great job of keeping Jordan's website updated. She was my inspiration to start and keep Ryan's blog up to date, nearly three years ago! Thanks Jen!!!

And I have to add the train pictures too. The little man loves his trains! We don't watch Thomas the Train, but he saw a commercial for the movie and he went nuts. "Train, Train, Train". He kept repeating until I acknowledged him. He then wanted to play with his trains, hence the photos from this morning.

He continues to amaze us every day. Repeating every thing we say. Uses 3-4 words.
His legs are stronger too, standing, with assistance, for longer periods of time. In PT, she had him standing against the couch for 10 minutes!

He was fitted for a wheel chair earlier this week. We decided to go with a wheel chair that is school bus accessible. YES!! We are looking at schools for him. The First Steps program he is in only helps him up to three years (which he turns three in December!) We are in the process of finding a school for him, an integrated classroom (kids with special needs and kids without). He may be placed as early as January. Personally, I think that is toooo soon for him. I am hoping he will be placed next fall. Keep your fingers crossed.

Special Thoughts and Prayers go out to a friend from high school and her family. Her oldest son, Z-Man, had spinal fusion surgery last week. Keep up the good work Z-Man, we are hoping for a quick recovery!

Yes, I haven't posted in nearly six weeks (yikes!) but we are back. So much has happened, yet nothing too significant or earth shattering. Our Little Man, 36 inches and 30 lbs, is quite amazing. His range of motion continues to improve daily. He can now scoot across the floor, on his bottom. Sometimes it's more like scooting in a circle, pushing continuously from his left. 'Lefty' has quite the reach and 'Righty' is improving. He does a lot of transers from his left to his right. Claps with his left hand and right fist. Speech is improving to 3-4 word sentences. He repeats nearly every word we say. He wakes up in the morning with "Up" and then when I am changing him "Eat Brefat". Says "Night, Night" when he is ready for bed. We ask him if he wants to go lay down and he says "yeah, lay down". If we ask him if he wants something, and he does, he gets really excited and will say "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah". A few weeks ago, we gave him part of a popsicle. He devoured it and asked for more. Tim told him "No, it's all gone". Ryan then asked again, but this time he said "More, Peas"(while doing the sign for Please). Tim told him, no. Ryan responded again with "Peas(again while signing Please). Again, he was told no. At this point, he decided to throw a tantrum and screamed for more (no please) and started to bang his empty bowl on his tray. It was amazing to see his reaction through this process. He asked nicely for more, several times. After being denied, he threw a fit. I guess that what being a 2 and 1/2 year old is all about!
A few weeks ago, we went on a short vacation. I had a family reunion in South Dakota and we decided to go. Mor Mor Jo and GA Judy and our clan took to the road. Our 15 hour drive to Sisseton, SD to see family we have never met, lead us on an adventure. My great-great grandparents immigrated to this great country from Norway in the 1870's and settled in the SD territory. They had 11 children and well, the rest is history. Our trip was educational and relaxing. Can't wait for a return visit. The good thing is Ryan survived the trip. On our way home, he slept for four hours.

Anyway, enough blogging for now. Here are a ton of pics over the last six weeks and you can see how our little man has grown. I hope to get some video on here too. That's all for now

So many pics this time, so much to say, but my fingers are tired of typing...so I'll be brief.
Over the last week, Ryan and Olivia's Great-Grandpa turned 85. We had an open house and an afternoon gathering for him. Olivia and Ryan played while the adults mingled. Julie, Trevor and Olivia were able to stay in town for the week. Last Friday, while I was at work(sigh), they went to the Magic House for a fun filled day. To top of their week in town, we went to the Pasta House for dinner. Ryan and Olivia shared a plate of pasta, as you can tell from above, he enjoyed it. So great to see them.
Anyway, Ryan is doing really well. He is wanting to walk. He tries extremely hard and is getting better, stronger and more confident. The little man talks like mad. Putting more words together, two and three word sentences. He now says 'Please' and can also sign it too!
He loves his wagon and tells us he wants to go for a walk.

Not much new to say, just that thanks to my dear cousins, Ryan has a new table. It is a 4 X 3 Thomas the Train table with wooden train tracks. It is a great addition to our family room. We had to rearrange some seating, but it is great. He loves it. He sits in his cube, but can pull himself up to stand. This is the best toy for him. Thank you Jen!

I almost forgot, but we have another addition to the family. Jen and Ray have another daughter, Daniella Pearl. She is beautiful, as you can see. Mom and baby are doing well.

The little man is repeating nearly everything we say. He knows his colors: purple, yellow, red, blue and green. Says woof woof when he sees the dogs. Loves the word NO. When he says NO with a smile, it means yes! The best is after he takes a drink from his cup, he says "ahhhhh"!

Another busy week down. His braces finally arrived! Yeah! They fit so much better than his old ones, plus he really likes the dinosaur print. Roar!
This past weekend was a busy one too.
Saturday we celebrated Ryan's Home Birthday. Two years ago he came home from the NICU. I can't believe its been two years. Growing like a weed. Coming home at 6lbs 4 oz, he is now pushing 28 lbs! We celebrated by going to Gus's Pretzel's and had some pretzel dogs and pretzel brats. The little man loves his pretzels. He can eat an entire pretzel in one sitting.
Went to Tower Grove Park to have lunch and watch the ducks.
Discovered a newly opened market that sells Shakespeare's Pizzas (frozen). For my fellow Mizzou alum, you know of Shake's and how incredible this pizza tastes. So we stocked up and devoured a veggie one for dinner. ummm ummm good!
We also walked to a local park, in search of a cache. If you haven't heard of geocaching, check out this website http://www.geocaching.com/. Never knew about this until our pastor sent us a link to this site. Such fun and plan on searching for more cache again soon.
Wanted to go swing at the park with the little man, but he fell asleep(see above photo)for 2 hours. Also wanted to go to the zoo on Sunday but again slept, for nearly 3 hours. Ahhh the life of a two year old.

Fun Filled Week of Appointments

Well this was the week of appointments. Everyday our little man had somewhere to be. So here we go:
Monday: PT with Ellen and then a Follow Up with the ENT. She checked the status of the tubes and they seem to be doing their job. Look great and are still entact. Follow Up in six months.
Report Card Grade - A

Tuesday: NICU Follow Up and Developmental Testing. This was a long day for Ryan and Dad. Spending a good portion of the day at CGCH. The NICU follow up with the neonatologist went well. He is progressing well and doesn't need a return visit for six months. He also met with a psychologist for another Bayley Test. A Bayley test scales infant and toddler development. It rates the Cognitive, Language and Motor skills of a child based on their chronoligical and corrected ages. The psychologist played with him for about an hour and came up with some exciting and promising outcomes. Chronological age now: 26 months. Cogitive scale age equivalent is 20 months. Language scale age equivalent is 19-20 months. Fine Motor scale age equivalent is 15 months and Gross Motor scale age equivalent is 7 months. We knew the gross motor skills were low, because he is not crawling or walking quite yet (affects of the cerebral palsy), but are thrilled with these results. At a previous NICU visit in July,the results of the Bayley test were Extremely Low/Borderline. Now he is Low/Average! This proves early intervention and intense therapy with our little man has improved his outcomes tremendously. I know he is a smart little man and can communicate with us, but it is so reassuring that a professional confirms he is on track with other kids and has great potential. Still working on Gross Motor Skills. He is scooting more. He has issues with his right side, not sure how to get his right arm out from under him to help move and tends to scoot in a circle. His legs are strong and he can hold his own weight. We walk with him and he moves his legs and feet back and forth, like he is walking! This is very encouraging and promising, on our way to crawling and walking. Report Card Grade - A.

Wednesday: Speech Therapy with Ashley. Determined he now can say 50 + words. I know this increases everyday, because Ryan repeats EVERYTHING now! We really have to watch what we say and pronunciate our words. Words starting with B an P are now entering in his vocabulary. Eye Therapy with Jo. Still improving and have a follow up with the pediatric opthalmologist in April. Report Card Grade -A.

Thursday: OT with Adele. Played on his belly more today, didn't want to stand too much. Report Card Grade - B

Friday: Scheduled to get his new AFO's but Barb was out sick today, so we've rescheduled for next week. Went to MorMor Jo's for a fun filled evening and spent the night.

Saturday: Spent most of the day at MorMor Jo's while Tim and I both worked.
Everytime we come back from MorMor Jo's, he increases his vocabulary, now saying purple and poop!(not together). Thanks mom!
Whew...
What a week, now preparing for a relaxing day. Take a walk up to Schnucks, then watch the USA vs Canada Hockey Gold Medal game this afternoon. GO USA!!!

Other exciting news: Aunt Julie and Uncle Trevor are expecting a boy in July! Congrats! Today is Aunt Julie's Birthday too! Happy Birthday and enjoy your day!

First Hair Cut

So it was that time, time to lose the curls. My little man had been mistaken for a girl. How? I do not know. Yesterday, we went to see Jen at work and let her do her magic. He was a perfect angel. He didn't fuss one bit. He even gave Jen a kiss when it was all over. I took a few pics and 12 minutes of video (which I need to edit before uploading). He looks so grown up. Where did my 2 year old go? He looks like he is 4.

He is chatting more each day, putting words together to let us know what he wants. Last night, Tim asked him "All Done" and his response was "More Cracker"! The little man loves his animal crackers. He says "Dunka" for Thank You.

On Wednesday, his school went to the Symphony. Yes and he loved it. He clapped when everyone else clapped, danced when everyone else danced. He loved being out and watching all the other kids and listen to the music. Truly loves music. Looks like we will be hitting any events with music.

He has a very busy week ahead: PT, OT, Speech, Eye, ENT and he gets his new braces! Can't wait. He has grown out of his old ones and therefore we can't use his stander.

Stacking blocks into towers
Today we had a great day. We went to the zoo. Yes, it is snowing, but we attended the Mardi Gras parade in the Living World at the Zoo. I was suprised to see how many people were actually there. Ryan had a blast. He loves beads. After the parade (indoors) we went outside to see the penguins. We got there just in time for the 3:30 feeding. He loved watching the 'ducks' as he called them and was very attentive to the zoo keeper. He also loved the snow, but more than anything, he wanted to eat his goldfish crackers! He didn't care that his hand was cold, or that it was snowing, his priority was eating crackers.
His main pasttime is stacking blocks. He has become the master and can stack at least 15 high. He is also getting very good at rolling over. This morning he scooted across the floor, nearly 5 feet. That is the farthest I have seen him move, by himself ever! Very Exciting. His new favorite character/book is 'Melmo' (Elmo). He loves reading the book received last year for Valentine's Day.
Therapy went well this week, getting good reports, moving more, talking more, communicating more every day.

On another note, we received the most amazing news last week, My Uncle Gerry is in remission! Congrats to him! We have been praying every day. Keep up the good work and hope to visit soon.

2 year check-up

So Ryan has been very busy the last few weeks. PT, OT, Eye, and Speech as usual. Also this week was his 2 year checkup ( a little late). It went well. Our little man is now 34 inches tall and almost 27 lbs! He is in the 50th percentile of an average 2 year old!

On Wednesday, Ryan went to the Cerebral Palsy clinic at CGCH. There he met with a physician who specializes in CP. At this time, there is no need for botox injections (yes, botox). It is used in patients to relax muscles. He goes back in 3 months for a follow-up. She was very impressed with our little man.

His new braces and chair should be in soon. I can't wait, for the the braces, his old ones are way too small. The chair should be helpful, since he is quickly growing out of his high chair.

The edu-cubes he received for Christmas are great. We went ahead and bought 2 more for daycare. He sits so well in them. At daycare, the other kids play on them too. He tries to pull himself up and stand. He loves going to school to play with his friends.

Our little man talks like crazy. Saying ; no, down, all done, momsair (mom's hair), rysair (ryan's hair), bock(block), waffle, and bubble. He also says cold if something is too cold or if we go outside. What he does is puts his left hand over his mouth, shrugs his shoulders and says 'coooold'. It is so funny.

He is obsessed with my hair. It's like a security blanket for him. If he is uncomfortable or really fussy, I just put my hair on his face and he calms down. He doesn't pull it, just touches it. and giggles. So cute.

He loves playing with his blocks and cars. He can play for hours with them. When he stacks so many blocks, it becomes a tower, stacking at least 5 or 6 high.

M-I-Z-Z-O-U

We had a very busy week: weekly and make-up sessions with PT, OT, Speech. He was fitted for his new AFO's (ankle foot orthotics) and those should be in a few weeks. He has outgrown his old ones. Even though we cut them down so they don't pinch his feet, they are hard to put on, he just has grown so much!
He is getting stronger every day. Yesterday he was sitting up with the boppy around his lower back, he leaned back and rolled right out of it and onto his tummy. He didnt even mind. He was trying to grab and play with his cars and blocks. He wiggled around on the floor for about 15 minutes without fussing, pushing up like he had the strength of Hercules.
He is saying so many words too. This morning, I gave him a banana for breakfast and he said 'nana'. He repeats things off the tv, such as car or dog. He likes to watch Dora and will say 'Dora' and 'map' when he sees them and 'did it' for 'We did it'.
Yesterday, we watched the Mizzou vs. Oklahoma game. We were chanting M-I-Z...Z-O-U.
Ryan picked up on it! So cute!
We are fighting colds/sinus infections right now (Ryan and Mom), we hope to be better soon.

Happy New Year Everyone! 2010 is here and one of my resolutions is to update Ryan's World more frequently. So here are a few photos from this morning. Ryan loves sitting on his new chairs and playing with his cars on the tray. This past week, he had a bug and gave it to Tim. Both are ok now, just uncomfortable for a few days. I actually think it hit Tim harder than Ryan. So Ryan spent a couple of days with MorMor Jo. When he returned home, he looked older and he could now sing "La-la-la-la". It is so funny to watch him maneuver his tongue to get the 'L' sound.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. We've had a very busy week. Uncle Dan was in town for an entire week. We spent some great quality time together. He has not seen Ryan since last Christmas. I think they bonded quite well. Hopefully his next visit won't be a year away.

Christmas eve was very relaxing. Mor Mor Jo, Kelly and Uncle Dan were over for a fabulous dinner. Tim braved the weather and fired up the grill. I know he got soaked, but it was worth it! Tenderloin tips, baked potatoes, grilled asparagus and jalepenos stuffed with cream cheese wrapped in bacon!!!

Christmas day was crazy (as usual). Get up early, drive 1.5 hours, eat, open a million presents, nap (Ryan), eat, drive 2 hours, eat, stay up way past bedtime, drop Ryan at Mor Mor Jo's for the night, while 5 of us (cousins) went to the 'boat'. No, I did not win! Sleep in :)

We had a great time with everyone. I can't believe it went by so fast.

We've had such a busy few weeks that I just haven't found the time to post any photos and update the blog. So here goes:
Thanksgiving was a whirlwind. Aunt Julie, Uncle Trevor and cousin Olivia were in town for an entire week. Spent Thanksgiving with the family at Katy & Irv's this year. We were able to spend the night so we did not have to drive home. Thanks Matt and Chris for taking care of our dogs. Tons of food and good times. It was such a treat to spend time with them and to see Ryan and Olivia play together. I think Olivia taught Ryan how to scream, for fun. He started screaming, so I went to see what was going on and at the end of the scream he had a big smile and started laughing!
On Saturday we went to the Delta Gamma Breakfast with Santa. Ryan did really well with Santa. He sat on his lap, looked at him a little funny and then started playing with his beard. Very cute.
That morning when he woke up, Aunt Tara and Mama and Papa B were at the house. We were all in Ryan's room. We asked him "Who's that?" and he said "Tarwa" and then "Who's that?" and said "Mama" and then "Who's that?" and he said "Tim". Yes, Ryan has figured out that Dad is Tim! He says Dad, but if Dad doesn't answer, he calls for Tim! It is so cute.
He is vocalizing more each day. Along with signing "more", he now says "more".
He loves music! He can't get enough. So far his favorite is Laurie Berkner. She does a lot of kids music and is featured on Nick Jr. He goes crazy for her. He also loves Jimmy Buffett. It is great to see him rock back and forth to dance. We can't turn the radio on fast enough when we put him in the car!

So Ryan was a little monkey this year for Halloween. We didn't do much trick-or-treating, since he doesn't eat any candy. We did go to our next door neighbors, our church and over to Scott and Renee's for part of the hockey game and a beverage before heading home. Ryan was awake until 9:45pm, the latest he has ever stayed up since being on a sleep schedule. Hoping he would sleep until 7:00am. Well, it worked. He started cooing about 7:00 and was in full blown laughter by 7:15, giving me just enough time to make banana pancakes.

On Wednesday, Ryan had tubes put in his ears and a hearing test. The surgery was successful and he passed his hearing test with a borderline normal result. This is great news. We always knew his hearing was never an issue. Hopefully the tubes will eliminate the ear infections.

The little man has been chatting up a storm too. More sounds and more solid words. Go, Cup, Cracker, Cookie, Em-me (milk), Juice, Car, Goggie (dog). The sounds are getting clearer.

He is communicating more with us too. He uses the sign for "More" frequently. He understands what this means. There is a game he plays with dad and after it is over, he does the sign for more. Tim does it again, Ryan laughs and the more sign. They will repeat this 5 or 6 times until dad is done!

He loves playing with cars and his musical instruments, transferring more toys to his right hand. He is also reaching more with his right.

We have a meeting with First Steps this week just to review his progress. His speech therapist wants to meet once a week instead of twice a month. She sees great progress, but also wants to push him, because he is ready and willing! Very exciting.

So I think we've had our fill of pumpkin patches...on Sunday we went to Rombach's (with everyone else in the city!)We met up with Madisyn and Aiden and had a great time. On Friday, Ryan's school went to a local patch. Tim went too.
Today was the annual Delta Gamma event at Daniel's Farm. We had so much fun.
Ryan had his first pony ride and also got on a tractor that was just his size. Mor Mor Jo met up with us too and after we went to lunch.
We were pretty busy this week with PT and Speech therapy.

Keep Ryan in your prayers this week, on Wednesday he has tubes put in his ears. It is an outpatient procedure, but it is still surgery.

Lets Go Blues!

Ryan is ready for Hockey season. He was ecstatic that the Blues beat Detroit in the opening series in Stockholm. How Swede it is!

So another ear infection and the pediatrician recommended Ryan get tubes in his ears. We went to the ENT and his surgery is scheduled for the end of October. I certainly hope this helps with the infections.

This weekend we went to the NICU Reunion Walk for graduates. We had a great time. Met up with other parents of kids who were in the NICU. We saw some of his nurses and doctors and it was great for them to see how Ryan has grown. This was the first walk and it will be an annual event on our calendar.

Ryan is talking like crazy. He has been saying MaMa for everything. Milk is "Emme". He says "Go" and points to the door. Knows his hair, foot and nose and how to kiss. Such a smart little guy!

He continues to giggle and scream at the dogs every move. He makes me laugh so hard, I end up crying!

So how did I forget to post on Labor Day? We've been crazy busy lately. Aunt Marianne and Uncle Keith were in town and we had a family bbq. Great Uncle Harry turned 70! Yikes!!!
More Ear Infections. We have an appointment with an ENT on Friday to see if Ryan needs tubes in his ears. His pediatrician thinks he is a good candidate. I certainly hope so.
Today we just got back from Innsbrook. I had a work function and was able to bring the family. We had a great time, a good balance of work and fun. The weather was great and Ryan was a joy. MorMor Jo watched Ryan on Saturday night, so Tim and I could stay out late.

So today we went to a friends house for the Gateway Cup 2009, a four day bike race around St. Louis. Today's leg of the race was on The Hill. Our friends live right on the route. We had a great time seeing some old friends and eating some great food.

The first time Ryan saw the bikers, he got a little scared. After three or four times around, he was waving to the bikers.

Anyway, not much else going on, another ear infection this week. Here are some photos from the week. Ryan is finally able to play on the table uncle Dan gave him for his birthday. He is able to sit up in a little chair, the same chair Tim sat in as a toddler. He can sit like this for about 20 minutes before getting fussy.

Ryan had a very busy weekend. Friday Aunt Tara came over to hang out while mom and dad went on a much needed night out with Scott and Renee. Broadway Oyster Bar was the destination and we had a great time. Great food and drinks! The Reeves' were also in town. Everyone was at our house Friday night through early Saturday evening. Jen, Cam, Jordan, Ryan and I went to the zoo on Saturday while the boys had the Fantasy Football Draft.

Ryan and I really enjoyed hanging out at the zoo. What a beautiful day. I can't believe it is still August. Really, a high of 79 at the end of August. Hope we don't pay for it in October.

We've had a busy August this year. August 9th was cousin Madisyn's 4th Birthday party. What a crazy day. Hot, Hot and more Hot. Tons of kids and tons of fun. I gave Madisyn the 2-tier Barbie house that Jen and I played with as kids. It was so fun to watch her play with it, as well as Aiden climb into the house and get stuck.
Grandma Carla, or Car-Car as Ryan calls her, stayed with us last week. It was great to see them bond and have a lot of fun. They haven't spent that much time together since Ryan came home from CGCH last year.
Ryan had a great eye appointment on Thursday, showing off some cognitive improvement by picking out objects from flash cards. His vision is right on target!
On Thursday, Aunt Julie, Uncle Trevor and cousin Olivia arrived in town. We were able to spend some time with them on friday at the zoo and saturday in Steeleville, Il for the Summer Birthday Bash. We celebrated many birthdays that day. Olivia will be 1 in a couple of weeks, Chelsea will be 21 this week and I won't mention the ages of the rest of the birthday bunch! We took the kids swimming and had so much fun. Ryan was in the water a little over an hour. He is definitely a fish (just like his Uncle Dan)!
On Sunday, we took it easy, the little man took a couple of much needed long naps. We did have a little scare. Until now, we never had to strap Ryan down when we changed his diaper. He would lay on his table and coo and try to grab his toes and play. Well, while Tim was changing his diaper, he pulled himself up to grab his toes and rolled right off the table! Fortunately he was ok, he fell about 2.5 feet to the carpeted floor. He cried a few minutes; I think it just scared him. The good news about his roll, is that Ryan IS rolling! His trunk is getting stronger. He tries to pull himself up on his changing table as well as roll over to his side while he sleeps. We are so excited. The bad news is, we now have to strap him down when we change his diaper! Here are some photos from the last few weeks. I know I havent posted, so here are some to hold you over (Uncle Dan!!!)

The Kreutzman Family Reunion

I know I haven't been posting much lately, but we have really been busy. Work is busy; we come home, spend time with our little man, he goes to sleep and we follow. We've had family in town the last few weeks and have more due in next weekend too. A family reunion was an event we couldn't miss. Up next week are birthdays and more parties.

But focusing on Ryan now, his big news is the stander was delivered last Monday. Its an odd contraption that is very big and awkward. We put him in it for 15 minutes a day now, building up to an hour. Lets just say, he tolerates it. At least it has an attached tray so he can play with toys while standing. Its great to see him upright.

He is also standing more with his AFO's too. Last weekend I took him to the Health Fair at my work. There were hundreds of people and so much to do: DJ, African Dancing, sno-cones, food, give-aways, classic cars, train rides, pony rides and best of all, a petting zoo.( I'd like to give credit to those that planned the MHDCHC Health Fair, it was a huge success). Anyway, I took Ryan to the petting zoo. It was a 15-foot fenced in area with a couple of goats, ducks and a llama. I stood him up while he held on, with both hands, to the fence and watched the animals. He tried to grab the goat and was tickled when the goat brushed up against his hand. He was so focused on the other children and the animals that I don't think he realized he was standing BY HIMSELF for about a minute and a half! I nearly cried! I wish I had my camera. (Specifically left it at home, because I knew a camera, stroller, snacks and Ryan would be a too much to handle since I was flying solo.)

On Thursday we had a meeting with PT, speech and our new case manager from First Steps. Ryan was approved for speech therapy twice a month. (Yeah!!!) He is babbling more and more each day. Laughing and giggling. Aunt Tara had him rolling earlier today. All she did was lift him above her head and he giggled like crazy. What a funny little guy!

Today we went to the grocery store and he was babbling and laughing down every aisle. He makes so many friends, especially women. They love him. He flashes his cute smile and gives a sly look. They just laugh and smile back at him. So cute to watch.

Anyway, I've babbled on enough myself, just waiting for dinner to arrive.

After a busy week and weekend, we plan to take it easy today. Earlier this week, Ryan was fitted with his wrist brace and AFO's. He doesn't seem to mind them too much. He figured out the wrist brace also doubles as a food saver. He stuck his wrist brace in some pudding and and put it in his mouth to chew on. With his AFO's he was able to stand, with a little help from dad, but he is on his way. It was very emotional for me. His 18mos checkup went well....in the 25th percentile of his birth age, 75th percentile of his corrected age...32 3/4 inches long and 24 pounds. His eye visit was great. He was working with flash cards and picking out pics of mom, dad, and shoes. What a great week for him. Getting over his ear infection and more teeth, he also had to fight Hand, Foot and Mouth virus. Got that from daycare! So the events of last weekend all make sense. Anyway hope to have a low key week, just playing and swimming are on the agenda. Hopefully his fussiness is over

After a very busy week, we decided to keep the weekend low key.
Friday night, I hosted a Pampered Chef Party for my sister-in-law, (Aunt Tara is now a consultant!). We had a good turn out and had a great time. Good wine, good food, great friends and great dessert. She made a chocolate caramel cake. Delicious!
Saturday, we set up the pool and attempted swimming again. Ryan did really well. The water was still a little cold, but he loved splashing the water and playing with his lobster toy.
Today, Great-Grandpa was in town, so we went to Aunt Joan and Uncle Gordon's for brunch. We ate and then took naps. A nice relaxing afternoon.
We have another busy week ahead with PT, OT and Buddy Builders at Delta Gamma.

The water was a little chilly!

Today, Ryan had an MRI at CGCH. The neurologist we saw last month ordered an MRI to see how things were going. Since he left the NICU over a year ago, he hasn't had any tests or scans. This was just a follow-up test and we will find out the results next week. Not to worry, just follow-up and hopefully it will tell us everything we already know.
The day was exhausting. Ryan could not eat anything after 9:30am and his test wasn't until 1:00pm. We had to distract him and decided the zoo was our best bet. We went there and Ryan enjoyed tracking the monkeys! We then arrived at CGCH and everything went like clockwork. We were home by 3:00pm.
The time at the hospital was bittersweet. It was heart wrenching watching him have an IV put in his arm. He screamed, yet while he was screaming, he yelled MOM! The nurses are the ones to point this out. Tim and I looked at each other and nearly cried. He hasn't said MOM before! When the test was over, they had us come back in the room. We both got really emotional. He was hooked to the monitors again as well as having oxygen. It brought back so many memories of being in the NICU. We both had to hold back the tears. After waking from the sedation, he said it again, and it was very clear, MOM!!! ( he was also saying DADA), but he has never said an M sound. I guess it takes drugs and sedation for him to say MOM!
The nurses said he will probably sleep more of the day away. This was not the case. The little man was awake and thirsty, taking in almost 20 ounces of milk in 4 hours! He wouldn't stop drinking.
Like I said, we are all exhausted and I now have to find a way to take Ryan to school and go back to work tomorrow. All I want to do is hold him and play.

Bath Time

So Ryan has been busy this week. We had a meeting with First Steps on Wednesday. Everyone is really happy with Ryan's progress. Our case manager couldn't believe how much he has improved on his skills since she last saw him in December. Unfortunately, she won't be our case manager after July (due to state issues). We will miss her. One of the things discussed is speech therapy. So Ryan will now be meeting with another therapist (PT, OT, Eye and Speech). So far he is doing well, we just want to keep him on target. He trys new words and sounds everyday. He now says 'Good' every time you ask him "How's Ryan doing" or How's my buddy". He also says it when we say "Good Morning or Good Night". He says "N-key" for Monkey. He also says "Cool". So the words are coming, but we think the therapist will help him communicate more.

We had bath time tonight and I let him play a little longer, so I could take some photos. He was having so much fun, playing with the cups and splashing.

I also took some photos last weekend when I put him in his swing. He loves it!

Memorial Day Weekend!

First, I'd like to thank all of those who have served our great country and have passed, especially my dad and grandpas. I think we should honor them without all of the commercialization of the weekend. I do regret we did not make it to JB this year for a visit. With all of the rain we encountered, we just could not fit it in our schedule. We hope to get down there soon.
Ryan had another double ear infection last week. Tim took him to the pediatrician, who prescribed more antibiotics as well as a different inhaler. So far so good. Since then he has been beaming. He had a great weekend! Babbling is his new passion. He figured out how to make the 'B' sound and now says "Browrowrow" constantly. He also says 'Good'. Tim started asking him "How's Ryan doing?" and he says "Good" with a smile. Its so great.
He loves playing with play-doh and coloring.
He also has discovered Jell-o and loves it.
He is such a joy and is so amazing. Every time he smiles or smirks, my heart just melts.

Today is Ryan's Great-Grandma's 90th Birthday. We went to visit for a little while. We had some cake and gave her some big hugs and kisses. Uncle Dan sent me a video to show her. It was great; he sang Happy Birthday while playing the ukulele. She was so happy and looked like she was going to cry.

So we have been celebrating Aunt Tara's 30th Birthday all weekend. Her Birthday is Monday, but we started celebrating on Friday night. Aunt Julie, Uncle Trevor and Olivia drove up for the the festivities. Friday was a much needed night out for all of us. MaMa and Papa B babysat Ryan and Olivia while we went to have sushi. We sent MaMa B a text to see how things were and her response was " Ryan and Olivia are outside and the dogs are in. Everything is fine!" Cracked us all up.

Saturday we had lunch at a local restaurant with about 25 family and friends, then headed over to Tara's for cake and presents. Olivia and Ryan were playing on the floor with their toys. It was so fun to watch them interact with each other. They kept taking toys away from each other. Olivia has grown so much and can crawl backwards. They were both chattering up a storm. We have already determined when they get older, Olivia is the one that will be talking Ryan into doing something he doesn't want to and Ryan will be the quiet sly one that will say, ' She made me do it'.

We had more family and friends over at our house last night and grilled some beef and chicken kabobs. They were delicious.

Yes, Ryan had a busy week. The Easter Bunny came to our house, along with Mama and Papa B and Great Grandpa. Ryan went to his first Baseball game last Saturday with Tim, Papa B and Great Grandpa (and Scott B.) He had a great time. He fell asleep on Tim for about 2 hours! Yes, only waking up when Pujols hit a grand slam. I think they all enjoyed themselves.

We went to church on Easter Sunday and Ryan decided to fall asleep during Mary Gene's sermon and proceeded to sleep through the rest of the service, through the organ, drums and cymbals too. And I thought I could sleep through anything, but this little guy has me beat!
Easter was at my aunt Charlie and uncle Gerry's. A great relaxing day. Food, beverage, golf, hockey and an easter egg hunt. We tied the older kids hands together to slow them down from trying to get all of the eggs from the little ones. This year, Ryan was the only little one. Madisyn and Aiden were not with us, since GG passed earlier in the week. So Tim carried Ryan around and had him pick up some eggs. He did good at picking them up and dropping them in the basket. It was entertaining watching the big kids try to pick up eggs and put them in their basket while having their hands tied. I am sure the neighbors were thinking about calling family services!

Well Ryan started waving this week! His therapist said he started waving on Monday. We were waving back and forth all week long. He is still a little inconsistent, but is getting better. Repetition is the key.

I bought him a ball yesterday and he thought it was the best thing ever. Tim was playing with him on the couch and he laughed everytime you gave him the ball or took it away. Cracking himself up when we bounced it on the floor.

Today, Ryan's school was closed and I was able to take a vacation day and spend the day with him. We didn't do much, but hang out, sleep, eat and laugh. The little guy sure can laugh and smile. We are preparing for Easter. MaMa and PaPa B are coming to town...

We have been so busy the last few weeks. MaMa and PaPa B were in town last weekend and were able to hang out with Ryan.They haven't seen him since the holidays and it was great to see him interact with them. Yesterday we went to a Delta Gamma Center event at a local hockey rink and went ice skating. MorMor Jo came down for a visit too. We had a great time. Tim and I both put on skates and we were able to take the stroller on the ice and push Ryan around. He fell asleep when we started skating, but soon woke up after we stopped.

We think he had a great time.
Ryan keeps fighting infections. Ear infection after ear infection after ear infection and then today he threw up his breakfast. No fever, so we took him to school. When I got home from work, he had another fever...hopefully the cycle will end soon. I hope he just has a bug. Went to bed at 6:30 pm tonight and will only take juice. He pushes the milk away and won't eat solid foods.

Poor little guy, I hate it when he is sick.

Ryan and I are just hanging out, waiting for dad to get home from work. He loves his bumbo chair. We put the tray on it and he loves it. Watching Noggin...We have some errands to run later. Don't think we will make the St. Paddy's Day Parade downtown, maybe next year when he is a little older and not as chilly.
Ryan had his first scrambled egg this morning for breakfast. Not sure if he liked it, since he eats pretty much anything you put in front of him! He ate about half the egg and then had an entire bowl of banana oatmeal cereal.
Ryan is sitting up more on his own, for up to a couple of minutes now! He catches himself when he starts to lean to the side. Great Progress!

I can't believe it but Ryan has been home for one year now. March 6th marked the one year home birthday. We celebrated by staying in. Ryan has been sick all week. Monday night, Ryan had a fever of 101.8. Took him to his pediatrician on Tuesday and said he has some sort of virus. For the next 3 days his fever range was 98 to 102. On Thursday, we went back to the pediatrician and guess what, a double ear infection! We just finished the last antibiotic Sunday the 1st! So more antibiotics. Friday, he woke up with a rash on his stomach, back and neck. Looks like another allergic reaction. Called the pediatrician, again, and he said to watch it. So far, so good. This morning, it seems to be gone. Not sure if it was a reaction with some food and the antibiotic? Just something else watch.
I think Ryan was confused with the time change of Spring forward and Fall back. He woke up about an hour and half earlier than normal which meant no sleep for mom. Oh well. I got a nap in once Tim got home from work.
Another milestone....We changed out the carseat in my car to a toddler booster seat. This one we will be able to use until he is 100 pounds! He loves it. He loves looking forward being able to see us in the car.
Such a beautiful day, so we went to Carondolet Park for a walk. A bit windy, but still a nice taste of spring.

Ryan wants to wish his Aunt Julie a Happy Birthday. I hope you have a wonderful day with Uncle Trevor and cousin Olivia!

Ryan had another busy week. Therapy on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday he met with Jo, his eye therapist. She saw so much improvement with his vision. He is now in the 3rd stage of CVI. This is great news! He still has some issues to work through, but has shown remarkable progress. Jo suggested that we can start to use photo flash cards. So that is my new project...taking pictures of people and things familiar to Ryan, printing 2 copies and cover them with clear contact paper. We can use them for matching while asking him questions like..."Where's Mommy?" or "Where are your shoes?"
In one of the exercises, Jo asked him" Where's your bottle?" and Ryan reached for the bottle, then a few seconds later she asked him "Where's your shoe?" and without hesetation, he reached for his shoe! We were astonished and so excited. For him to know the difference and understand means so much and proves to us that his therapy sessions are more important than ever. They really do affect his development and progress!

We went to Soulard Market this morning and the local PBS affiliate was filming for a documentary. We kept running into the camera guy who shot about 30 seconds of footage of Ryan! He didn't give me any information on why he was filming, so it's possible Ryan may appear on a PBS show sometime in the future

Ok, I know I have neglected updates for 2 weeks now. No specific reason, just lazy and all of us getting over colds. Not much has been going on. Ryan had really good visits with his PT and OT the last few weeks. His trunk is getting stronger and can prop sit close to 30 seconds before tipping over. I don't think his splint is working out that well. His PT and OT both agree and think we need one that will also support his wrist. When he has it on, he can't do much with his hand, he can't grab anything, the splint gets in his way. So we are investigating other options.

Our little guy is now 14 months old. Eating everything in site. Now completely off formula. Drinking about 15 ounces of whole milk a day. Starting to self feed. Graham crackers and animal crackers are favorites. I just bought some veggie puffs and he grabs them with his left hand and shoves in his mouth. Yesterday we make 138 four-ounce jars of food. Everything we make is now on the chunkier side. He can handle bigger bites and can chew soft foods.

Ryan loves his music. Jimmy Buffett is a favorite. Not sure where he gets that! (He loves the Volcano song)

We don't like to let him watch too much tv, but when we have it on, its either Nogin or Sports. 'Jack's Big Music Show' is his favorite. You should see his face light up when the theme music starts.

Tolerating his activity center more and more. He can turn himself around, hit all the musical buttons and put nearly every thing in his mouth. New favorite toys are cups! Yes, we he has tons of toys with all the bells and whistles and he likes to play with cups.

Last week, we went to my cousin Jen's for a much needed hair cut. We let the kids play. What excitement. Madisyn ran circles around Ryan and Aiden. I think I took a hundred pics. Anyway, we are looking forward to another busy week.

I've taken a lot of video I have to edit, but hope to post some this week.

Ok, First, I apologize for my singing, but I wanted to post this. It is too funny.
I am not sure what happened to Ryan during his first year of life, but our little guy does not like the Canadian National Anthem. I know my singing is pretty bad, but Ryan reacts the same way when Tim sings this song to him. (Aunt Tara is a witness to this.) If we sing other songs, he is fine, he just does not like "O' Canada". Uncle Dan, did you have anything to do with this???

Today turned out to be a great day for a visit to the zoo. Tim had to work the afternoon and I had to get out of the house with Ryan. He has been really fussy the past few days. Getting over his cold, but now back to teething. It looks like he is getting at least 1 more on top and on bottom, for a total of 8 teeth. So we (mom) needed a day out. We are fortunate that we only live 10 minutes away from one of the best zoos in the US. Not many people were there, so we got a front row seat at the sea lion feeding. It was great to walk around and see so many animals out and about. Ryan seemed to enjoy it and was really good for about 1 1/2 hours, then became tired and fell asleep on our ride home. I only got a few pics of him, but I did get a ton of the animals. I'll post a few of them. Looking forward to the Super 'Game" tomorrow! Go Big Red!

Ok, I know I haven't posted in 2 weeks, I've been yelled at by my brother twice now, so here you go.

We have had a busy couple of weeks. Ryan seems to be over his cold now and I think we will attempt whole milk again tomorrow. He has been eating like a little pig, at least 16 ounces of solid food a day. This past week he started with some animal crackers too. I can't believe he is now 13 months old!

On Tuesday, Tim took Ryan to get fitted for his splint. The splint fits his right hand and will hopefully help him start to use his right hand a bit more, at least keep his hand open and thumb out. He seems to tolerate it ok, just not sure what to do with it. He wears it for 2 hours on, then 2 hours off.

Today we took a ton of video and some pics as well. Tim had him rolling. I posted the funniest part of the video. I promise it won't be 2 weeks between posts again.

So Ryan had his first week back at daycare since the holiday and thank goodness, he is back on his schedule. Sleeping all night, eating and playing. And now he is back to having another sniffle and cough. I guess that comes with daycare. 2 other kids at daycare have runny noses. Yuck.

Anyway, he had his One Year well visit at the pediatricians this week. Weighing in at 21lb 10oz and 29.5 inches long. It doesn't seem like he has grown much over the last month and a half, but maybe because he was sick. The doctor also said we could give him whole milk now! Yeah! Hopefully no more formula!

We started that this morning and so far so good. He didn't seem to notice the switch, but by the evening bottle, he didn't really want any milk, just wanted juice. So we will see. Hopefully his body will adjust and accept the milk, if not, we are back to soy! Yuck!!

He has been so much more animated the past few days, using both hands and nearly rolling over by himself. He is tolerating his activity center for longer periods of time and is able to grab and play with toys longer too. Aunt Tara stopped by this morning and hung out with us. He kept flashing her a grin when she called out his name. His favorite game is 'High Five'. When you say High Five, he grins from ear to ear and puts up his left hand. I'll have to get it on video and post.

I think that is all for now...this week we have Buddy Builders at DGC on Wednesday and we hope to get his splint this week.

Happy 2009!

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year. I can't believe I've had this blog a little over a year now. Where does the time go?

Not much has been going on this week. Ryan's daycare provider was on vacation this week. Mor Mor Jo spent time with him on Friday. They had a fun filled day of playing and eating...not much napping. I am afraid that when he does go back to daycare tomorrow, he will be a bear. He hasnt had much of a schedule the last 2 weeks. I can't wait for him to get back on the 12 hour sleeping schedule. He is much happier when he gets all of his sleep.

One funny thing this week....Tim and Ryan were watching the hockey game on New Years Day and Tim began to sing 'O Canada' (canadian national anthem) and Ryan started wailing. Tim stopped and Ryan stopped crying. Tim started singing it again, Ryan proceeded to wail. Tim sang another song and Ryan was fine. So apparently our little guy does not like 'O Canada'! It was the funniest thing! No trips to Windsor anytime soon!

Ok, So I am a little late. We have had a very busy week and a half. On the 21st, we celebrated Ryan's Baptism and First Birthday. The baptism was beautiful. Our pastor, Mary Gene, had a special sermon, just for Ryan. It really touched our family and we are so grateful to have such a wonderful church family. The party was fun. 30 people in our house was quite a challenge, but I think we pulled it off. We had a birthday cake just for Ryan. I wasn't sure what he would do, since he has never had table food, but he loved the icing. He threw a fit when we took it away. SO cute.

On Christmas Eve, MorMor Jo, Uncle Dan and Kelly came over for dinner. Dad made a great dinner..prime rib and asparagus (my favorite). Christmas day was such an adventure. He did so well, making out like a bandit. Santa was very good to Ryan. He LOVES his laptop from MaMa and PaPa B. He gets so excited whenever he sees it. At GA Jamie and GU Mike's, he played the piano with MorMor Jo. Everytime he would hit the keys, he would laugh. I think we have a musical talent on our hands.

The day after Christmas, we went to the doctor again, yeast rash from the antibiotics to help with his ear infection. So his pediatrician gave him a different antibiotic, he still had a little redness in his ear. Well, the next day, we found red splotches all over. It kind of looked like chicken pox in some areas and a heat rash in others. After advice from the doctor, we gave him a second dose. If it got worse, we were to go to the ER.
On Sunday, it was worse. We went to the urgent care, much quicker than the ER. He prescribed a steroid and took him off the antibiotic. We now need to get him into an allergy doc to see what type of antibiotic he is allergic to. Bummer. I was hoping he wouldn't get all of my allergy traits.

He is doing well now. Mom and Dad are tag teaming it this week. Daycare is on vacation. So if Mom is at work, Dad is home with the little guy and vice versa. Anyway, enjoy the photos. They are of the past 10 days.

Today is Ryan's First Birthday! Where did the year go? He is such an angel and is so big...nearly 22 lbs.
Unfortunately he has a double ear infection. He isnt acting fussy but he hasn't been eating much the past few days.

We have been busy this past week.

Ryan went to Buddy Builders on wednesday again, at the Delta Gamma Center. On Friday, he had an appointment at CGCH for a fitting for a splint on his right hand. This should help keep his right hand open and his thumb out, enabling him to use his hand. It should arrive in about a week.

Saturday we ran all kinds of holiday errands, including a visit with Santa.

Sunday we went to a baby shower for a friend of ours who is having a boy in February. We cant wait.

We also went to the Holiday Party for the Delta Gamma Center. We met a few other parents and kids who have CVI and other ailments. We talked to a couple who have a little boy who graduated from DGC last year. They are all so welcoming and encouraging. We had another visit with Santa too. So cute, Ryan was great. He was comfortable on Santa's lap, occasionally looking back and up at him and his beard. I hope to see those photos soon.

One Year Ago....My water broke

I can't believe it has been 1 year since my water broke! We have come so far in one year. Tonight on the news, I saw a story where a little girl, who was born Oct 2007 and she finally got to go home today. She was in the NICU/PICU at CGCH for 13 months. I balled through the entire story. I recognized the dad of the little girl, I know we saw him in the family lounge when we had our stay at CGCH. Just amazing, how far we all have come. I think back to the morning my water broke and they told me I would be in the hospital until Ryan was born. I was so scared, but everything we have gone through is so worth it. We have an amazing son, who inspires us everyday. We are so blessed to have him in our lives.

Tim took Ryan to Buddy Builders at the Delta Gamma Center on Wednesday. He was asked if they could use a picture of Ryan in their flyer. We are so excited. Watch out, I think we have a star on our hands!
Last week, we had a meeting with our case manager and his therapists. It was decided that Ryan has made some great improvements, yet he is still developmentally behind. He was approved to have PT and OT once a week instead of every other week and Eye once a month. We are so excited and grateful to our therapists for the increased visits. I think they will really help him catch up.

Ryan did not eat all of the food on this plate, nor did he actually eat the turkey leg, though he did enjoy playing with it. We had a nice and relaxing day with MaMa and PaPa B and Aunt Tara.

11 months old today

Today Ryan is 11 months old! I truly can't believe it. He is growing every day. The photo in his red pajamas was taken tonight after his bath. I bought these pj's last week, hoping they would last him a few months.... I hope they fit through Christmas. The size is for 18-24mos! and they just barely fit him. I bought him an outfit for Christmas that is 18mos. I hope I dont have to exchange it!

The sleeping shot was taken a few days ago. Tim took it after he was picked up from daycare. What an angel!!! That is all for tonight. Enjoy

Busy Week

This has been a very busy week for all of us. I was in Kansas City a few days for work. The first time I had been away from Ryan for more than one night. It was torture. By Friday morning, I was counting the hours until I would be home with my guys. And there they were, waiting for me at the airport, with flowers. What a wonderful husband! On Tuesday, we had a nursery followup visit at CGCH. His provider was really happy with his growth. Ryan is in the 85th percentile of his birth age! 21lbs 4oz and 28.5 inches long. He is growing proportionally and fast. I cant imagine how big he would actually be if I would have carried him full term.

She wasnt as happy with his tone. His muscles are still tight in his arms and legs, yet little tightness in his trunk. She is recommending that we have PT and OT every week instead of every other. She is also recommending he wear a splint on his right hand. It is like a little glove with the fingers cut out. This will help his right thumb stay out and use his hand more. His left hand is progressing well. He uses his left more than his right. (We are still hoping for a future left-handed pitcher). So now we have to work to even this out. He will be fitted for the splint in the next few weeks.

His eye sight is also progressing. Just this week, he started grabbing my face when I got really close to him. I think every day he sees more and is just a little bit stronger. He is almost able to sit up by himself too. He can hold the position for 5 - 10 seconds and then starts to tip over.

He is also starting to get frustrated when he drops a toy and cant get it himself. He will try to reach out and grab it, but if it is too far, he starts to wimper. I hate having him get frustrated, but it is a good thing, he has to figure out how to get the toy on his own. He will thank us for it later.

On Wednesday, Tim took Ryan to Buddy Builders at the Delta Gamma Center. They met other kiddos with CVI and their parents. It was a good meeting and a fun time. They had music hour and Ryan responded well to the activities and seemed to have a good time, so much that he fell asleep during the parent break out session. We will go again in December.

Ryan turns 11 months old this Wednesday too!!!

Tonight Ryan celebrated his first Halloween. We dressed him as a 'Red Hot Chili Pepper'. He was a hit. We first went next door to visit our neighbor. We then went to our Church, a safe place for kids to trick or treat! Our Pastor was a witch this year. Our last stop was at Scott and Renee's. Ryan was really tired, since he is normally asleep by 8pm. Each time we got in the car to go to a different location, he fell asleep. So, we made it a short night. Here are some photos. I have to admit, I did take the Chili Pepper photos this morning (the lighting was better and we were pressed for time last night). This afternoon, we are going to Great Grandma's and MorMor Jo's....so more pics later too. Enjoy

How cute is he! This was taken on Sunday. A beautiful Fall Sunday in our backyard on the swing. He was laughing like crazy and I caught this shot and couldn't wait to post it.

We have been so busy this past week, well I have.

The previous Saturday we went to another pumpkin patch. It was with the Delta Gamma Center. We met other kiddos that have CVI (Cortical Visual Impairment) and their parents. We had a great time. There was a petting zoo, train rides and mazes. MorMor Jo was with us while Dad was at work.

On Wednesday, Tim and I went to a CVI meeting at the Delta Gamma Center and learned so much about this ailment. We need to slow things down with him. We cut the clutter out of his play area. Simple toys, shiny objects, easy things for him to focus on. We have already seen some improvements. We are really excited to be part of the center!

Big Day at Eckert's

On Sunday we took Ryan to Eckert's farm for some apple pickin'. I know we will definitely go back next year when he is older. Tons of stuff to do for kids.

Sunday night, he woke up screaming at 1am and pretty much continued to do so all night. This is not like him. He sleeps about 11 hours a night, all night, so we knew something was up. I took him to the doctor Monday morning to discover he had an ear infection. He was also wheezing, so his pediatrician put him on an antibiotic and an inhaler. By Tuesday afternoon, he stopped the screaming and was feeling much better. I pray he doesnt have ear infections like his dad had as a child (per mama B).

Today, we had an appointment at the Delta Gamma Center. This center is for children who are visually delayed or impaired. His therapist, Jo, is great. She confirmed our concerns about Ryan's vision. She cant diagnose him, but does say he is visually delayed. She says he has great potenial and room for improvement. We think it just takes him a little longer to process the information from what he sees and what his brain processes. Tim and I have seen him improve over the past few weeks. He really tracks toys that are red or orange. He is tracking them more when they are closer to him as well, not just from afar. We are just waiting for the day for him to make eye contact with us and smile!

The Delta Gamma Center is a great organization that is funded by the United Way. They offer support groups and group play with other families with children with visual impairments. We are actually going to a gathering this Saturday to a Pumpkin Patch. MorMor Jo is going with us since Tim has to work. We will get to meet and network with other families. We are so blessed to have them so close to us (about 4 miles away) and willing to work with us.

Lunch with Mom, Dad and MorMor Jo

Today we went to lunch at Schlafly's Bottleworks to celebrate MorMor Jo's birthday. We had a great time. Ryan was a bit tired and fell asleep a few minutes into our lunch. I think he was mad because he couldnt eat the same food as us.

He is eating bananas and loving them. Though he has been a bit more gassy!

After lunch we came home and played in his activity center. He is now able to sit up in it without falling or leaning to his left! His torso is getting stronger every day. This kid has a really long torso. When we prop sit him, he falls forward because his arms arent long enough to hold him up! MorMor Jo says that Great Grandpa Lew had a long torso and was very tall. So I guess this runs in the family and at this rate, Ryan will be a giant!

Ryan is fighting a cold right now. He has a really good sniffle that has turned into a very congested cough. I feel so bad for him. We have to elevate him so he can sleep at night and breathe. We also thank the humidifier and vapor rub. He seems to do ok with that.

Tooth #2 has popped through. He wasn't as fussy as he was with his first tooth. In the above pic, you can just barely see it. He looks so cute. Enjoy. (Uncle Dan has requested more messy food photos, so here you go!)
